AOET PROGRAM FOCUS AREAS
AOET is an independent, indigenous, Christian, non-governmental organization focused on finding
long-term, sustainable and creative supports for the poor and vulnerable children of the AIDS epidemic in Africa. There are four primary focus areas:
- Child Welfare—Formal Education, Orphan Placement & Support
- Medical Assistance & Awareness
- Empowerment/Vocational Training Programs
- Administration
In combination, these programs provide better health, increased stability within the communities that the children live, physical and spiritual development and a whole lot more love, laughter and joy. 90% of funds raised via child sponsorship are sent to Africa. This means $.90 of every dollar goes to the welfare of the child being supported and is used to fund these programs.
CHILD WELFARE
AOET always starts with the child. School fees, uniforms, books and meals are just the starting point. The amazing Child Welfare staff are the eyes and ears finding out about children in need and getting them into the program. The counselors are the hands reaching out to children that are experiencing hardship and the social workers do their best to recommend workable solutions for families in need.
90% of Child Sponsorship dollars are sent to Africa and 75% of those funds are used for Child Welfare. Timely payment of sponsorship pledges are vital for this program. Please also speak for the children and encourage friends and family to sponsor a child. Service Teams are open annually for you to meet your children in Uganda.
MEDICAL CARE
People die from treatable infections in Africa—a simple cut can be fatal in unsanitary conditions without treatment available. AIDS is still wreaking havoc throughout the population and many people, including children, require HIV screening & medication to live.
The AOET Medical Clinic provides basic health care and immunizations for all the children in the program, as well as attempts to address the needs of their community. They have a new women’s clinic and focus on health education.
The need for medical equipment, supplies and support is constant. We also send medical teams from the US to offer clinics and raise support & awareness for needs of the medical clinic.
EMPOWERMENT
Work for the poor in Africa is an on-going battle. High jobless rates, little to no education or training and no resources, can leave the poor feeling completely hopeless in any effort to provide for their families. Without support and skills improvement , poverty becomes a generational cycle.
AOET believes that empowerment happens when people learn to provide for themselves. They provide vocational training, animal husbandry, agricultural skills training and business
start-up funding.
AOET has a refreshed focus on empowerment projects including home gardens, tailoring, paper bead jewelry, etc. Start-up funding is needed for all these projects.
ADMINISTRATION
It takes a lot of coordination both in Uganda and in the US to maintain 700 Child Sponsorship relationships, process new children and grow sponsorship, assist Service Teams, manage fiscal responsibility and develop healthy infrastructure. As AOET grows this is one of the primary areas that requires long-term support and commitment.
Administrative costs are the least supported aspect of most ministries and yet are critical to a healthy program. Donations to the AOET~USA general fund help us proactively respond to needs of the children and enable us to raise more awareness. Please support us at www.aoetusa.com/donate-today
